California Highway Patrol has assigned a fulltime officer to catch the speeders on the eastern side of Altadena Drive. Increased enforcement will start Jan. 2. Town Councilman Gino Sund sent a letter to his constituents on Dec. 27, which said:
1. In addition the regular beat officers, Patrolman [Andre] Primeaux will be
assigned full time to Altadena. In the past, the principle patrol
officer in Altadena split his time between Altadena and other
duties. Patrolman Primeaux will be available to work with us and attend
our traffic committee meetings. This is a real step forward since we now
have more hours of patrol and a single contact at the station dedicated
to Altadena.2. Radar enforcement on Altadena Drive will begin on January 2,
2008. The only failure of your committee was our inability to get
immunity from tickets for residents of East Village. So, a word to the
wise should be sufficient.3. The East Village Homeowners will have and ongoing dialog with the CHP
station to monitor the results of the enforcement effort. The initial
enforcement effort will focus on the morning and afternoon hours as
indicated by your input. I will be spending some time with the
enforcement team on the street to monitor the situation and based on my
observations and further input from you, the time and place of
enforcement will be adjusted.4. The possibility of nighttime enforcement will be considered. In the
past, due to lack of resources, there was little or no evening
enforcement in Altadena. We will be looking to have occasional nighttime
patrols to keep motorist aware of the CHP presence.5. The CHP is looking at creative strategies to maximize its presence
and the effectiveness of their efforts. Sorry, but the techniques and
strategies are top secret. So again, a word to the wise, be mindful of
the speed limit. This enforcement effort will first be focused on Altadena Drive, but
will also take into consideration other problem streets in our community.
