Save the Altadena Trails sends us this:
As we have done for the last two years, Save the Altadena Trails (STAT) will host an event at Little Round Top, the burial site of Owen Brown, on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 21, 2008, from 9:00 a.m.-12 noon. This year's event will be a little different because the main focus will be creating a new, safer trail to the top of Little Round Top. You can come to work on the trail, stop by and chat, or just go to the top of Little Round Top, commune with the spirits and admire the view. Paul Ayers, who designed the new trail, will lead the work party.
Those interested in working should wear appropriate clothing, bring gloves, hat, water, and any favorite lopper or cutter.
You cannot drive to Little Round Top and the gravesite. Though it is a relatively short hike to the site, the terrain is steep and uneven in places. Suitable walking shoes are suggested. We have attached a detail map of the area to help you find the trailhead at the top of El Prieto Road in Altadena (See Thomas Guide page #535 F2-G2.) The gathering place for the event is marked with a small red "x".
Please park in the cul de sac at the end of County-maintained El Prieto Rd. [indicated with red "A" on the map] and walk in. (Please avoid Risinghill Rd. so as not to disturb residents at the end of the county road. Also It is very important not to drive up the private road portion of Risinghill - it is owned by friends who would be very inconvenienced by a sharp increase in vehicular travel.)
