Here's the short rundown of yesterday's meeting: MonteCedro yes, tennis courts yes, commercial vehicles will start getting tickets, and a council seat is still vacant. Details after the jump.
UPDATE 10 AM: just got a response from our Marengo Nuisance House source, which has been added to the story below.
MonteCedro: The council uanimously approved the new facility that will take the place of Scripps Home. Move-in date for the new facility is expected in 2012. Officials of Episcopal Homes, which owns the facility, said that anyone who was a former Scripps resident (and is now living in their other facility, the Kensington in Alhambra) will be welcome to return. While Episcopal Homes expects to contribute $1.5 million annully in charitable care for residents, the economics of the situation mean that most residents will have to pay an entry fee of from $398,000-$800,000, and monthly fees of from $2,800 to $4,500, w/assisted living being $6,500.
Eliot tennis courts: The council also unanimously endorsed an agreement between the Altadena Town & Country Club and Eliot Middle School to refurbish Eliot's tennis courts, in return for joint use.
The country club will put up $50,000 to improve the unused and dilapidated tennis courts -- some resurfacing, new nets, windscreens, etc. It will also send its janitorial staff to clean up and maintain the courts twice a week. In return, the club will have full use of the courts on Wednesdays and Fridays, will split use with the school on weekends, and will have most morning hours during the summer.
The club will also put together three eight-week tennis clinics a year for Eliot students, staffed by certified pros, to teach tennis fundamentals. The club's pro will also consult with Pasadena Unified School District for tennis programs.
Commercial vehicle parking restrictions: Sheriff Capt. Roosevelt Blow told the council that a new parking ordinance will be taking effect in Altadena, restricting parking of commercial vehicles of 10,000 lbs. or more. The new county code forbids parking of such vehicles in city streets and alleys between 10 PM and 6 AM. Starting Monday, warning citations will be issued, and after about a month, tickets will be issued. Fines will be $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second, and every subsequent violation for the same year will be $500.
Nuisance house: Blow said that the house on the 3800 block of north Marengo was the subject of a Sept. 4 meeting between several county officials, and that the house was in the process of being boarded up. One of the problems with the house was that the trash stacked up on the driveway couldn't be moved by public works, as it was on private property. "Miraculously," he said, the trash ended up moved to the street where public works can remove it.
Altadenablog checked with his source on All Things Nuisance House, and she replied today (9/17) with pictures:
They just slid it to the CURB to say "Yes
We Are Working On it" To be Politically Correct. I just want to ask
"What if this was next door to YOUR house... would it have been there
this long? I am embarrassed it took me this long to get on top of it.
I Took pictures today (9/17/08) of the Trash Truck passing I will give them the benefit of the doubt and wait until this evening to send the updated pictures... have been keeping a daily log...
Council seat: the council seat at CT 4603.02 vacated by Steve Lamb remains vacant this month. Willie Ordonez was the only resident who applied for the seat, but admitted he was a permanent resident of the U.S., and not a citizen, which is one of the qualifications.
More information to come once we can get back to the computer today.
