Happy birthday to us -- the very first Altadenablog post was a year ago today (we believe it was "test test test" while we were still figuring out a decent format and color scheme!)
This is our 844th post, we have 236 comments that you can still read (and probably about 20 we couldn't/wouldn't print), and have clocked over 38,000 pageviews in our first year of life. We started this modestly hoping to be the "bucket" that Altadena news fell into -- library schedules, public meetings, all the stuff that was important to the community but wasn't gathered in one place.
And how it's grown. We not only have all of that, but there's some stuff you only get regularly right here -- town council meetings, local election coverage, crime, community events such as the Farnsworth Park Summer Concert Series. Yeah, we get scooped occasionally by outfits with actual paid staff, or even some of the other blogs, but not too often -- who's running for town council? Who won? Who resigned? How did the election go? MonteCedro approval? Sahag-Mesrob? Food co-op? COFE-Altadena? You read 'em first -- and sometimes only -- right here.
We thank and bless those community-minded, reliable souls who have been moved to help us out and make us better (we're lookin' at you, Monica, Bill, Alice, Yolanda). We couldn't live without ya.
For year 2: we pledge to strengthen our coverage of the Westside, crime, and the arts in Altadena. We know there's a lot going on in those categories that's not covered, and we're going to work harder to bring it to you.
We thank you all for your support, your news tips, your encouragement, and your time. We love this work. We love Altadena.
