The Altadena NAACP, ACT-SO, and the Youth Council will host "Soul Food Sunday" Nov. 9, from 3-5 PM at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr.
In addition to "free food and good vibes," there will be live music, dance, spoken word/poetry, art, dramatics, open mic, etc.
The dinner is a kick-off event fro ACT-SO and the Youth Council. ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) a major youth initiative of the NAACP. It is a yearlong enrichment program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. ACT-SO holds a local and national competition annually where students compete in 26 categories in the sciences, humanities, business, and performing and visual arts.
The Youth Council is a replica of the larger body of the NAACP focused on creating young, civic minded, socially responsible leaders.
