Sid Gally's Monday PSN excursion into Pasadena history looks at dispatches from the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition and Fair (a precursor of the Word's Fair, and whatever happened to those, anyway?) Ray Conger and Isabelle Bates WInslow covered it for the Pasadena Daily Evening Star.
There are a few Altadena connections to the Fair. One of them is that (legend has it) the Turkish pavilion was shipped here after the fair and turned into the smoking room at the McNally House. Of course, the Brothers Green were inspired by the Oriental architecture on display and exercised that inspiration in several notable Pasadena and Altadena locations. Gally ends by telling us that the largest searchlight at the exhibition ended its days on top of Echo Mountain (just out of range of the Weathercam!)
