Altadenan Susan Braig (whose story we have kept up with here and here) sent us a couple of notes of interest to artists and supporters:
The City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division is holding a free grant
writing workshop at the Planning department April 30 from 6:30 to 9 PM
(refreshments included) for its individual artist and arts education
grants, due in June 2009.
Xiem Ceramic Center (1563 N. Lake in Pasadena) is holding its annual craft fair May 8 and 9. I will have a booth at the Xiem craft fair, selling my Designer Drug jewelry collection studded with pills - a metaphor to protest that health care in this country should not be a luxury item. I create and sell this jewelry to pay off enormous medical debts and post-cancer follow-up medical bills. I wear this jewelry in my health care/insurance reform activism, at the local, state and national level. I have shared my Blue Cross under-insurance woes in testimonies before the California Assembly and Senate Health Committees, spoken at rallies, and have been profiled in the L.A. Times, Consumer Reports and on NPR's Morning Edition.
