This from Gardenaire Sandy Gillis:
10. We’ve been having great bbqs for 34 years. Now it’s #35, appropriately, the Handi-Wipe Anniversary. (Remember Queen Elizabeth’s 35th? Not a drop of grease when she ate plates of ribs.)
9. We’ve got the beets. And the asparagus. And the berries. Did we mention the ribs?
8. The ribs are grown at the local Meat Garden. Fact check, please.
7. Great photo opps. With 108 gardeners in 65 plots, this is a riot of color and plants.
6. Anthony Portantino will most likely be there to press the flesh. And shake hands.
5. July 11, the weekend after the 4th of July. Good old “no fireworks” Saturday.
4. Fifteen minute, jam-packed gardening workshops with the Common Ground Master Gardeners are scheduled every hour.
3. Self-guided tours of one of So Cal’s premier Community Gardens. Group tours available. People only, no pets, please.
2. Did we mention Anthony Portantino might be there?
1. Raffle prizes, The Brown Mountain Jazz Band, a new shade patio, and all the cold lemonade you can handle.
The Altadena Community Garden BBQ is from 1 to 5 PM, leaving plenty of time for your morning Rose Bowl walk and the evening at Levitt Pavillion. And at $8 per person, you won’t find a more economical lunch west of the Rockies.
Come on down. See how many shades of green West Altadena can be!
The garden is at 3330 Lincoln, near Loma Alta Park.
