This year's "Read for the Record" event will help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" (which, with three kids, we can recite from memory!)
"Read for the Record" is a nationwide literacy awareness event, where readers from around the country try to set a world record for the number of people reading the same book on the same day. The Altadena Library District will be one of many special events throughout the nation.
Readings will be at the main library, 600 E. Mariposa, at 4 PM, and the Bob Lucas branch library at 4:30 PM. Participating children will receive their own limited edition copy of the book.
Schools, day care centers, and businesses are encouraged to participate. For more information, call 626-798-8338, or surf to http://www.readfortherecord.org. Participation forms are also available at the libraries.
