Last week, we said we were trying to start a neighborhood newsgroup for our immediate neighborhood in East Altadena, and got a small response (about half of which were many blocks away!)
Well, the idea has adapted, grown, or metastasized, depending on how you look at it. We've been in contact with Phil Barela on the town council, who with fellow census tract rep Gino Sund has been developing a Yahoo newsgroup to serve as a direct line to the Atladena Town Council members. We decided to combine our efforts to create a newsgroup on Yahoo for the residents of Census Tract 4601, called ATC4601:
The ATC4601 group is for residents of Altadena, CA Census Tract 4601.
The group's purposes are:
1. To facilitate communications with your Altadena Town Council Census Tract representatives, Gino Sund and Phil Barela.
2. To convey news of interest to residents, including crime, safety, resources, and events in the census tract.
This is an active but private listserve. If interested in joining, please ask to join. All new members must be approved by an ATC4601 moderator. When joining, please include your full name and address. This will be kept confidential, is used only to verify residency, and it will not be used for anything else.
When contributing to the newsgroup, we ask that you sign with your name rather than use an Internet handle.
Group moderators are Gino Sund, Phil Barela, and Timothy Rutt.
Yahoo newsgroups are great, in that they offer several options to allow people to receive every message, only "urgent" messages, a daily digest of messages, and no messages at all (you can go to your Yahoo Group website to read the messages.)
