GANGS & VIOLENCE: A NEW WAY OUT FOR ALTADENA-PASADENA
Hear Tony Massengale, Coordinator of the County Human Relations Commission's Racialized Gang Violence Prevention Initiative, discuss how and why gangs arise and how intervention and prevention methods are having success in controlling violence and bringing hope to communities under seige. Dominick Correy, former gang member who received intervention help will also speak about his experience and how he's now attending college.
Gang violence, the scourge of poor communities and costly to all for generations in Southern California, is being addressed in new ways with promising results in Los Angeles and now in Altadena-Pasadena. Current and former gang members trained to intervene and prevent violence, in cooperation with professional law enforcement, are replacing suppression-only methods.
