The Bright Futures Scholars participated in a day long leadership development workshop Feb. 6 as part of their mandatory monthly meetings. Prominent community leaders Congressman Adam Schiff, Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, Dean of Scholars Dr. Sandra E. Thomas, Altadena Sheriff Station Captain Roosevelt Blow, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, and Pasadena Interim Chief of Police Christopher O. Vicino all attended and participated.
The Bright Futures Scholars are a combination of Pasadena Unified School District’s brightest and most outstanding academic achievers. The “Bright Futures Scholars (BFS) Support Program/”Quest for Success” is a program that extends itself to targeted low income, high achieving (3.0+GPA) students completing highschool, many against insurmountable odds, who have earned the opportunity to quest forsuccess. Program components include: mentoring, tutoring, financial and other literacy programs, housing and health fairs, as well as youth scholarship opportunities.
