In addition to the groaning board of activities in Altadena this weekend, you may wish to take the family to Pasadena's Greening the Earth Day activities in Memorial Park and at the Armory Center for the Arts today (details here).
Of local interest, State Sen. Carol Liu will demonstrate planting a Blue Hesper Palm, a water-wise tree native to the area, at the exhibit booth for Ellis Farms at 11:30 AM.
Ellis Farms, a wholesale nursery specializing in low-water use, cold-hardy, and native California palms, will be exhibiting at the Earth Day-related event to encourage homeowners, landscape architects, and contractors to use palms as part of sustainable landscape design and installation. Ellis Farms' local operation is run from Altadena by Reuben Ellis, who's married to Alta-poet Linda Dove.
