Election committee chair Bob Meyer told the Altadena Town Council at last night’s meeting that 2010 elections for town council are slated for Sat., June 5, from 9 AM-3 PM.
Applications for candidates should be available in the next day or so at the Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr., and at the town council website. Applications are due no later than 5 PM on Fri., May 14.
There are eight slots up for election, one from each census tract. Meyer said that polling places were yet to be determined.
The council also approved some minor changes in the election rules, among them: that candidates need to prove their residence in their census tract by showing a California driver’s license or ID card, or passport; and changing the rule that election day campaigning can take place no closer than 100 ft. of an actual polling place (it was previously no closer than 100 ft. from the property line, but Farnsworth Park is a five acre spread).
Meyer also said that challenges to election results should be requested in writing -- a “whisper in my ear via e-mail” is not considered an official challenge.
