Got this note from a friend who lives on Marengo in the "cemetery neighborhood":
... a neighbor and I both walked out to the street because we heard this loud "back up tone" coming from a giant tow truck on Marengo backing up to another neighbor's classic car (some kind of old Cadallac or something). When my neighbor, who got there first, went to talk to the guy who was out of the cab and doing something at the back of the truck, he jumped back into the cab and sped away — just as I came out to the street. Very suspicious!
Didn't something like this happen in our neighborhood a month or so ago on Mendocino or thereabouts when someone had a car stolen from his driveway? This truck said "United Towing" on it, according to my neighbor who got a longer look at it. Maybe you could post a warning or something for people to be aware of. I called the owner of the car, and he said there's something wrong with it and he's put off fixing it — so it has been out on the street for everyone to see for a couple weeks. He is now motivated to get it off the street!
Our friend took the trouble to look up the previous car theft by tow truck in the neighborhood, at Visscher Pl. and Mendocino. Again, keep your eyes open and call the sheriff if you see something suspicious!
