The Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra (which has the wonderful abbreviation PSYCO, and includes performers from Altadena) will hold a Young Artists concert this coming Sun., June 27, featuring four young soloists performing at First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena, at 7:30 PM.
The Orchestra was founded in 1986 by Roberta Wilcox to give talented high school and college students an opportunity to play with outstanding conductors and study classical music. The Young Artist’s Concert was added to give a solos opportunity to our best performers.
Sunday's concert will feature conductor Dr. Paul Sherman, who is alsothe conductor of the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, and the Director of the Winds Symphony at Chapman College. He is also on the faculties of College of the Canyons, CalArts, and is the music director of the Symphony of the Canyons.
Our soloists are Christina Eastman, 13 year old violinist, performing Viotti Violin concerto #22; Hillary Lin Santoso, 13 year old pianist, performing Mozart Concerto #20; college student Leslie Cain, playing Piano Concerto #2, Op.102, by Shostakovich; and college student Kevin Hou playing “The Introduction and Allegro” Op. 92, by Schumann.
The concert is free and made possible in part by funds from The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation and the Pasadena Arts and Culture Commission.
There will also be a silent auction before the concert for a beautiful full-sized violin painted with peacocks and music motifs by local artist Bea Barrio. The bidding will start at $50.00 and will benefit PSYCO. Checks and cash only.
