Theatre Americana, the golden era’s community theater troupe, pays tribute to a groovy decade of peace and love when it presents “The 60’s Revisited,” a musical concert under the stars Sat., June 19 at Farnsworth Park Amphitheatre in Altadena. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes a special guest appearance from members of the 1960s folk/rock group, “We Five.”
Hosted by Theatre Americana and Show of Support Productions, two non-profit organizations, in collaboration with the County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation, “The 60’s Revisited” will take you back to a nostalgic time when music captured the essence of love and peace in a somewhat turbulent era. So, get out those love beads, put flowers in your hair, grab a tambourine and join us for a musical journey as you listen to popular hits of the 1960s. Theatre Americana would like you to dig deep into the pockets of those paisley pants you wear and find $10 to support those cool little hippies in the Farnsworth Afterschool Program. Reservations are required to attend the concert.
Jerry Burgan, known as “The Keeper Of The Flame,” and only member of “We Five” to have been on every album from 1965 to the present, will perform along with Debbie Burgan, and Tholow Chan. “We Five” is best known for their 1965 remake of Ian & Sylvia’s “You Were On My Mind.” In addition, local guitarist and songwriter, T.J. Smith will debut his original composition, “Star.”
“The 60’s Revisited” is Theatre Americana’s third performance in 2010 at Farnsworth Park. Playing to a full-house on February 13, Theatre Americana revived its playbill after a 10 year absence with an original comedy, Polterheist: A Valentine’s Day Play at historic Davies Hall. “An Oscar For Mom,” a pre- Mother’s Day musical program and lunch on May 8 celebrated the wonderful people in our lives with excerpts from popular movies embracing parent and child relationships. Proceeds generated from both performances benefited Farnsworth Afterschool Program.
Farnsworth Park Amphitheatre is located at 568 E. Mount Curve Avenue in Altadena. Reservations are required to attend the concert. Contact Donna Scarantino at (626) 840-3551 or donna8461@sbcglobal.net or online at www.theatreamericana.com to make your reservation.
