One of the long-term neighborhood Independence Day parades takes place on Sonoma Drive, and Chris Considine was there, with his eyes on the ground this time, in words and pictures:
At 10 AM on Sunday morning, the 51st Annual Sonoma Drive 4th of July Parade began on time once again.
A very local family crowd of over 80 people, dogs, and pets assembled for a group Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. A quick group photo, and the parade headed West on Sonoma Drive following the bright red pace car of Craig Boatman.
With the scooters, bikes, trikes, strollers, wheelchairs and wagon wheels turning, the parade continued up to Boston, down to Morada, with an Easterly return to the treat tables at the starting point of the parade, Reggie and Yvette Ingram's house. The kids were then released to begin devouring patriotic cupcakes, cookies, fruit, and other goodies. It's always a special gathering for neighbors to meet and catch up from another year gone by. A chance to marvel at the dramatic changes of children growing up so fast, and to greet the new ones for the first time. It's something that I think we all wish would happen more often during the year.
With most of the snacks gone, three prizes were given for decorations of the various modes of transportation. The prizes were given to our very youngest participant at 4 months baby DJ (stroller), 8 year old Emerson (bike), and our oldest participant Hal (wheelchair).
