- Congrats to Eliot Middle School, one of three grand prize winners in the 2010 Governor's Fitness Challenge. The prize: a new, state-of-the-art, $100,000 fitness center. (Webster Elementary was also in the running as a state finalist). School officials also credit the emphasis on fitness and activity with driving up the school's API scores by 100 points. PSN's Beige Luciano-Adams (a new name to us - my, they're running through those reporters) has the full story.

Altadena's Shirlee Smith preaches it on the Dr. Phil Show. - Speaking of things in Oprah's penumbra, we received a message from OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network) that they're looking for cluttered homes for their show, "Enough Already!" The series is looking for "amazing, inspiring homeowners who continue to support others even though they have overwhelming challenges in their own life. We are looking to identify these candidates in communities around Los Angeles who have overlooked their extreme overwhelming "clutter" for far too long and are now ready to seek the help they deserve. To be considered, email our name, contact info, a photo of the decluttering candidate and other people living in the home (if relevant), a photo of the clutter, and a brief paragraph about the homeowner, the clutter in the home and any chaos as a result of the clutter. Please describe which two rooms have been affected the most. If known, please identify when the clutter became a problem and if it may be attributed to a specific event in the person’s life." Casting will end soon: enoughalreadycasting@gmail.com
- We are late in reporting this from Skywatcher Chris Considine: "On Thursday evening at 5:07 the illustrious pair of Super Scoopers from Canada flew northwest over lower Altadena. I saw the first one while loading my car in a parking lot. I pointed out the bright yellow and red plane to a fellow shopper who was loading his car also.
Then I said, that's funny, they always fly in pairs...upon which I turned my gaze a bit and VOILA! there was the second one following right behind. The fellow shopper exclaimed...."NICE CALL!"
So they are back amongst us Southern Califormians for the new fire season. Let's hope they get NO CALLS this year...yeah...right." - Young Nick Garner at SportsTalk4Kids does a bang-up job covering the Angeles Crest 100 mile race last month. The kid's got a future.
