Pictured: flanked on either side by unnamed officers of the American Association of State and Local History, is "Southern California Story" designer Jeff Lapides, author Michele Zack, and Glen and Amy Putnam from the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society, who were all honored at the AASLH's annual gathering in Oklahoma City.
Altadena author Michele Zack went to Oklahoma City last week to receive an award at the annual meeting of the American Association of State and Local History (AASLH).
Zack's latest book, Southern California Story: Seeking the Better Life in Sierra Madre, was recognized for excellence by AASLH, calling it a “landmark study that is a fascinating history of an important community . . .that tells us much about the history of greater Southern California and the wider state, and at heart, about the broadest brush strokes of American history as well.”
Zack's book is available locally at (Altadenablog sponsor) Webster's Fine Stationers. Her previous history was Altadena: Between Wilderness and City.
