While the Saturday night "purple wedding to the moon" is back on again for Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens at Farnsworth Park, Los Angeles County officials will be holding the couple to the contract terms they agreed to when they booked the event.
According to Kathleen Witner, LA County Dept. of Parks and Recreation Deputy Director, there will be a "walk-thru" of the venue today with county officials and the LA County Sheriff's Department to discuss traffic flow and parking. Witner said that there will be a strict enforcement of parking regulations around the park to ensure that residents will not have their driveways blocked during the event.
Both county officials and the couple, who are performance artists, have said it was booked as a "wedding," rather than any other kind of event, and for up to 500 guests. Stephens told Altadenablog yesterday that none of the couple's multiple art-weddings attracted a great crowd. According to Witner, there will be a strict enforcement of the number of "guests" as well, limited to the 500 in the contract -- "any more than that will be turned away."
Calls to Sprinkle and Stephens seeking comment weren't returned as of press time.
UPDATE, 6:30 PM: Annie Sprinkle told us over the phone that she has purchased more insurance and hired more guards for the event:
"We're good to go. I guess I would have to say I'm focused on my vows, my guests, and my friends. I'm focused on the love."
