Altadena Det. Lt. Joseph Dempsey said that deputies are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occured on the 500 block of Terrace Lane this morning at about 9:20.
Nobody was hit in the incident, Dempsey said.
Deputies had tried to stop a car that was was identified as being taken in a carjacking in San Dimas. The suspect in the carjacking was an Altadena resident.
Dempsey said they weren't sure yet why the deputy's weapon was fired.
The suspect in the carjacking is in custody.
UPDATE: We've received more information from the sheriffs: suspect is Kyle Traub, 21, of Altadena, who was booked for carjacking. According to Lt. Dempsey, the car (which had been reported carjacked) was spotted by a single local deputy who proceeded to follow and called for backup. The car stopped and the suspect got out before backup arrived. According to Dempsey, at some point the deputy feared for his life and fired a single shot at the suspect, which missed, and the suspect became more compliant.
Per department policy, deputy's name is not being released while the investigation is going on. The shooting is being investigated by Altadena deputies, the sheriff's internal affairs division, and office of independent review.
