Rep. Adam Schiff is convening a congressional panel today to investigate the Station Fire, at the Chambers Court of Appeals Building, 125 S. Grand Ave., Pasadena. It starts at 9 AM and will go on until about noon. His panel will supplement a separate investigation by the General Accounting Office called for by Schiff.
Also on today's calendar: the interfaith "Daniel Pearl Harmony for Humanity" interfaith concert, 11 AM at the Weizmann Day School, 1434 N. Altadena Dr., Pasadena. St. Mark's School in Altadena will participate.
From the Kansas City Star (!) comes an article on the recently-chosen Rose Princesses. Among them: Altadena resident Tenaya Miyoko Senzaki, 17, who attends Pasadena High School. The Rose Queen will be announced Oct. 19.
Get your talent on: this Sat., Oct. 16, starting at 9 AM, auditions are open for the We've Got the Beat Talent Show and Contest at the Library, 600 E. Mariposa. Culminating a week of Teen Read week activities, the talent show itself will be Oct. 22.
Speaking of the library, it's one week until the "Read Like a Writer" workshop with Alta-novelist Michelle Huneven. The workshop starts at 7 PM Oct. 19, but Michelle would like to you have a couple of works under your belt before then -- details in our earllier story here.
