The Pasadena Unified School District has just put up a page on its website about the petitition from Altadenans for Quality Education to create a separate Altadena school district, and somebody needs to redo their work.
The page links to a PDF document that the District names "School District Reorganization Process and Timeline" in the link. The document itself (pictured), however, is called something else: "Altadena School District Petition Fact Sheet."
It begins with some facts about Altadena students' attendence in PUSD schools, giving a date as of Oct. 6, 2010, just last week.
But it goes really bad at the timeline, which it calls a "tentave timeline" ("tentave" is not a word, last we checked -- "tentative" is probably better. This is from the school district, remember).
"Time travel" would be closer to the mark: The timeline begins with "Signatures verified by the County Superintendent" -- in November, 2009. Or about 11 months BEFORE the signatures were actually submitted.
It then calls for a series of hearings, a feasibility study, etc., with the county superintendent of education ordering an election -- in Sept., 2010, a month before signatures were submitted -- and schedules an election in March, 2011.
If the election carries, we go back in time again to July 2010, when it says "Reorganization effective." Which means there is an Altadena Unified School district ... uh, right now.
We've got a message in to PUSD. We'll let you know what they say.
