The first Altadena Urban Farmer's Market at the Zane Grey Estate Sunday afternoon was a big hit -- parking was hard to come by, the crowds were abundant, and the food and atmosphere was good in the former home of America's foremost Western writer. It was hard NOT to find somebody you knew there -- and we found quite a few:
Arroyo TIme Bank board member David Cutter staffed the sign-up table (one had to sign up for a free membership to enter).
The rain didn't stop people from visiting the Arroyo Food Co-op booth.
Entrepreneur Earl Rothwell shared samples of his Earl's Gone Wild all-natural barbecue sauce and rubs.
Inside the mansion, Lori Webster (left) is disappointed that she missed Michele Zack's pies before they were sold out.
Urban market organizer Gloria Putnam (who lives on the estate) shares samples of home-made goat cheese.
And here are some of the goats, who live in the yard out back.
Jaime Rosier watches over the goat gate.
Ru and Kathleen of Madeleine's Patisserie show off their delicate sweets. (All right, settle down over there ...)
And what's a farmer's market without giant scary robot heads? At least we THINK that's what these are!
