Sukyo Mahikari Centers for Spiritual Development is sponsoring an Eco-Fest on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 2-6 PM. The event will be held in the parking lot of the center at 860 East Mariposa Avenue, Altadena. (Just west of Lake Avenue.)
This 10-10-10 Eco-Fest is part of a worldwide campaign organized by 350.org to call attention to the climate crisis and to offer environmental solutions. All those who come to the festival will be uniting with individuals and organizations from around the world who are taking environmental action on this same day.
The Eco-Fest will offer activities of interest for everyone, including children. Activities will include origami with recycled newspaper as well as planting organic seeds in biodegradable peat pots. The Eco-Fest will also include information booths, demonstrations, short talks and displays.
Several leading environmental organizations and experts will participate in the festival. TreePeople will offer information on their activities of planting and caring for trees in the greater Los Angeles area. A representative of the National Wildlife Federation’s Wild Life Habitat Certificate Program will be present and explain about the Federation’s certification program. Experts in the fields of composting, energy saving devices and wireless radiation and magnetic fields will participate in the festival as well.
The 10-10-10 Eco-Fest will also celebrate the environment through live music and dance. Getty Rox, Kiriko Taiko, a Japanese-style drumming group, and Thrill the World Los Angeles, a dance group, will all perform.
We encourage everyone to join us on Oct. 10 to have fun, celebrate local eco-successes, and be inspired to improve our personal lives and the condition of our planet.
The Eco-Fest is free and open to all. For more information, please call 626-529-4160, or go to www.350.org/eco-event-altadena.
