Last Sunday, over 330 people braved the rain to shop for homegrown and homemade food produced by their neighbors at the first ever Altadena Urban Farmers Market. Although vendors at the market are not charged for space, a percentage of sales is collected to support the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation. The FTCF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides educational and charitable services including education for consumers and farmers in sustainable farming, new distribution models, food safety and security, and other topics to help protect and expand sources of fresh farm food for consumers. The FTCF also provides financial aid to farmers who engage in sustainable agricultural practices and have demonstrable financial need as a result of government harassment, including unjustified raids and/or product seizures. The Oct.17 Altadena Urban Farmers Market raised $260 to support the FTCF.
