- Kimberley Valentine, Planned Giving Director at the Huntington Library, discusses how planned gifts can save on your taxes and provide resources that create extraordinary opportunities for the future of the organization of your choice. This program, co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Senior Center, will be held at 1:30 PM at the Altadena Senior Center, at 560 E. Mariposa Street (just west of the main library).
- Final performances Thurs.-Sat. for 2010 Wicked Literature: A Halloween Theatre Festival at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery. Three short works will be performed , based on Edgar Allen Poe's The Cask of Amontillado, H.P. Lovecraft's The Unnameable, and Charles Dickens' The Chimes. - Loma Alta Park will have a Halloween festival for younger children starting at 3 PM, and a a Halloween-theme teen dance starting at 7 PM.
Fri., Oct. 29
- An after school "Tiny Tots" costume parade will be held at Loma Alta Park starting at 3 PM.
- Your little spooks will have a chance to enjoy Halloween and Day of the Dead crafts at the Altadena Library, starting at 3:30 PM. Crafts include decorating trick-or-treat bags, Mexican paper flowers, and sugar skull decorating. 600 E. Mariposa.
- The Bob Lucas Branch Library, 2659 N. Lincoln Ave., will have a Halloween party starting at 3:30 PM. Decorate a trick-or-treat bag, or indulge yourself with face-painting -- time to get in the spirit of the season, and it's free.
- Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold a Halloween carnival Fri. from 5-9 PM. Free games for the kids with prizes, free spook house, and free chili dinner for the whole family.There will also be an all-ages costume contest. 185 W. Altadena Dr.
- The Altadena Senior Center is hosting its own haunted house, with raffles, snacks and more at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr. Included is a viewing of the movie "Drag Me to Hell" (rated PG-13, so not suitable for younger kids). The haunting begins on Oct. 29, from 7-10 PM.
- Farnsworth Park: There will be a Halloween carnival from 3-6 PM at Farnsworth Park on Friday, with activities and a goodie bag. Free.
Sat., Oct. 30
- The fall Art on Palm sale and exhibit will be held 9 AM-4:30 PM at 1419 E. Palm (down in the canyon). This one-day-only show and sale features ceramics, collage, drawings, fabric, glass, jewelry, paintings, photography and woodcarvings. Admission and parking are free; light refreshments will be available for sale.
- Photo by Walt, 875 E. Mariposa, will be taking free pictures and giving out free prints of your little goblin in costume, from 10:30 AM-4 PM today.
- Webster Elementary School, 2101 E. Washington, Pasadena, will hold its Fall Festival from 11:30 AM-4 PM. Family fun, a costume parade, and a neighborhood craft fair.
- At Farnsworth Park, in the upper Davies building, "Yourself in Another Life" masquerade ball, a conscious dance and movement event, will be held from 7-11 PM. Come dressed as yourself in another life, and throughout the night transform into, and leave as, yourself, No experience with dance necessary. An intermission of delectable desserts will be served halfway through the evening. $20 includes entrance and desserts, please email jp@IMJam.net to RSVP and for a PayPal invoice.
- Meanwhile, also at Farnsworth Park, the county Parks and Recreation Dept. will turn the lower Davies building into a haunted house between 6-8 PM. Expect thrills, chills, and more candy.
- The Altadena Ale & Wine House, 2329 N. Fair Oaks, will have a Halloween party on Sat. night with prizes given for best costumes. The Ale House opens at 3 PM, must be 21 or older to enter the premises.
