The Altadena Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (ACONA) will hold its bi-monthly meeting at the Altadena Library Conference Room, 600 E. Mariposa St., on Tues., Jan. 25, from 7-8:30 PM
The meeting will focus on issues raised by neighborhood associations at the last ACONA meeting, in particular speed limits in Altadena (they seem to change every block or so in some areas) and how to prepare your teenagers to act when stopped by law enforcement.
Elliot Gold, ACONA’s founder, will start the meeting by showing off the new ACONA Web site, which features a plethora of Web links to resources neighborhood associations need.
The talk on speed limits will be presented by Officers Thomas Miller and Ming-Yang Hsu of the California Highway Patrol. The talk on teaching teens what to do when stopped will be given by Sgt. Randenberg and Deputy Williams of the Altadena Sheriff’s Station.
The Sheriff’s deputies will kick off their talk by showing a video called “The Law and You” which features several scenarios, traffic stops, loud parties/alcohol, shoplifting and drugs. What the ACONA members will learn, though, is that the Altadena Sheriff’s Station is working with local kids to produce their own video, focusing on Altadena. The audience is welcome to add any input, though the Altadena Sheriff’s Station is already working on the script.
