Seniors and their families will learn and get help on how to protect themselves against elder financial fraud at a free “Smarter Seniors Forum.” Seniors, family members and caregivers should attend this informative forum.
Speakers from Consumer Affairs, Adult Protective Services and several other agencies will make presentations on topics that concern seniors and their families, including:
- Telemarketing fraud, fake lotteries and prizes, and fake check scams
- Identity theft, abusive collectors, and credit problems
- Abuse by caregivers, family members and conservators
- Real estate fraud, reverse mortgages, and foreclosures
- Reassessment Exclusions for real property transfers between parents & children and from grandparents to grandchildren
Speakers and representatives will also be available after their presentations to answer individual questions and take complaints. They will have complaint forms, brochures and contact information available.
This forum is being presented by County of Los Angeles Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and the County of Los Angeles departments of Consumer Affairs and Community and Senior Services in partnership with several other government agencies.
