- Seniors and their families will learn and get help on how to protect themselves against elder financial fraud at a free “Smarter Seniors Forum.” Seniors, family members and caregivers should attend this informative forum at the Altadena Senior Center, 560 E. Mariposa, 9:30-11:30 AM.
- Fun & games at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St. It’s the end of the week, time to have a little fun! Teens and tweens come out to the Altadena Library and we’ll open up the Community room, set-up traditional and video games and put out some snacks just for you. Come and hang out, have fun, snack and socialize.
- Weekly peace vigil, 4-4:30 PM, Altadena Community Church, 943 E. Altadena Dr.
- The Altadena Chamber of Commerce annual award and installation dinner at the Altadena Town & Country Club. The Chamber will install its new officers for the year and honor the Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Carolyn Ingram Seitz. Cocktails and silent auction start at 5 PM, dinner, program, and live auction at 6:30 PM.
- The Pasadena Education Network will have a Texas hold'em poker party at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr., starting at 6 PM.
- Come to a musical birthday party for W. A. Mozart and Franz Schubert, hosted by members of The Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena and Opera Pasadena, starting at 7:30 pm on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Altadena Baptist Church, 791 E. Calaveras St, Altadena. The program will include vocal and instrumental masterpieces by these two renowned composers. There is no charge for admission, but a free will offering will be accepted, and donations of canned or packaged food items for the local food bank would also be appreciated.

- Looking for something to do with the kids? The Pacific Asia Museum, 46 N. Los Robles in Pasadena, is having a Lunar New Year celebration on Jan. 29 to celebrate its 40th anniversary year. Activities going on all day, with performances starting at 11:30.
- Why do we keep what we keep and how can we evaluate our possessions to see if they are really worth the shelf space? Tracy McCubbin of LA-based dClutterfly will talk about the practical and emotional sides of clutter and why we keep it around. She will also offer some very concrete steps to help you deal with and ultimately reduce clutter. Wherever you are stuck, Tracy has a solution! Friends of the Altadena Library present: “What’s Under the Clutter?” at 2-4 PM at the Altadena Library Community Room, 600 E. Mariposa St.
- The Altadena Childen's Choir is performing "Exploring the Americas: Classical and Folk Music from the New World." at 7 PM today and 4 PM Sun., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1014 East Altadena Drive. Suggested donation for adults: $10, for seniors and students: $6. Children 12 years and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

- St. Elizabeth Parish School will hold an open house on Sun., Jan. 30 (11:30 AM-1 PM) and Tues., Feb. 1, from 9-11 AM. Information for prospective parents of children in grades K-7 will be presented at noon on Sunday and 9 AM Tuesday. The open houses feature school tours conducted by students, and a chance to meet current parents and students.
