The Quality of Life Center and Bright Futures Scholars want your change -- to help make a change.
The Quality of Life Center, Inc., is going around town dropping off “Dollars for Scholars” jars at local businessses to raise scholarship funds for the 2011 Bright Futures Scholars Support Program graduates. The funds collected in the “Dollars for Scholars” jar are 100% dedicated to the 2011 scholarships that will be handed out at this year’s Bright Futures Scholars Support Program Graduation and Award Luncheon on June 12 at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Vanessa Michelle of the Quality of Life Center says "The money jars aren’t just limited to change -- donors are welcome to drop any amounts of money into the jar in order to meet the goal per jar of $500 each. (Any checks made out to the Quality of Life Center, Inc. should indicate on the memo section that the funds are for the “Dollars for Scholars”.) Any donations made for that exact amount of $500 will be handed to a student in the name of the person or organization that funded that scholarship.
Every year, The Quality of Life Center, Inc. hands out more than 10 scholarships of $500 each at their annual Bright Futures Scholars Support Program Graduation and Award Luncheon. This graduation event showcases the achievements of scholars who have overcome much, proving to themselves that dedication, perseverance, honesty and hard work have improved their quality of life. These scholars are determined to accomplish their dreams of higher education and will have much to offer as marketable candidates in corporate America.
“This particular program is designed to enable young gifted academic achievers to become integral, essential, contributing members of society," said Dr. Sandra E. Thomas, CEO and founder of the Quality of Life Center, Inc.
"This innovative leadership development program which extends itself to low-income, high academic achievers, also addresses issues related to gangs, drugs, self-esteem, isolation, depression, lack of motivation, and perceived inability to prepare for the future. Our program has been instrumental in relationship building among diverse groups of young adults and families, including historic new relationships between youth and participating mentors such as community leaders and law enforcement. We encourage you to become a part of our mission and help us, help our communities brightest”
The Bright Futures Scholars hail from a variety of ethnic, cultural, racial backgrounds. This diversity greatly enhances learning as does the fact that students travel to Washington, D.C., to be physically present among the people, processes and places that make up our nation’s capital. With over 300 students currently participating in the program, the Quality of Life Center, Inc. depends on the dedication of participating mentors and the in-kind donations of our community partners to continue making this program a success.
