Chart: local water companies will have some restrictions in place to curtail water use for ten days in March.
Local water suppliers from Claremont to La Crescenta are asking for voluntary restrictions on household irrigation and other water use for ten days next month as a major plant undergoes upgrades.
In Altadena, those affected include households supplied by Lincoln Ave. Water Co., Las Flores Water Co., and Pasadena Water and Power. Customers of Rubio Canyon Land and Water have ample reserves and will not be affected by the restrictions.
Foothill Municipal Water District General Manager Nina Jazmadarian told Altadenablog this morning that the Metropolitan Water District's F.E. Weymouth Water Treatment Plant in La Verne will be shut down from March 18 through 27, which will affect 1.7 million customers in the area. The Weymouth plant treats a blend of waters from the Metropolitan Water District's Colorado River Aqueduct and State Water Project.
During the shutdown, Metropolitan plans to make needed reliability upgrades, prepare the plant for ozone treatment, and inspect structures that are inaccessible when the plant is in service.
Metropolitan supplies Pasadena Water and Power as well as Foothill, which in turn supplies many other water districts around the area, including the ones in Altadena, La Crescenta, and La Canada. Foothill's service to Pasadena, which affects some neighborhoods in Altadena, will be taken out of service for six days during this period to replace certain components.
Bob Muir, press office manager for Metropolitan Water District, recommended that gardeners delay putting in spring plantings until after the La Verne plant goes back online.
