- PUSD's African American History Bee, 5:30 PM at Eliot Middle School.

- Movies in the Park goes from 1-8:30 PM at Farnsworth Park. The classic Casablanca will start at 1 PM. The Nicolas Cage film The Sorcerer's Apprentice starts at 4 PM. Intermission features "urban illusionist" Greg Riley with snacks, prizes, and fun. The evening ends with the vampiriffic Twilight: Eclipse starting at 6:30 PM.
- Teen Fun and Games at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St., 3:30-5 PM. Teens and tweens come out to the Altadena Library and we’ll open up the Community room, set-up traditional and video games and put out some snacks just for you. Come and hang out, have fun, snack and socialize.
- St. Elizabeth Catholic Church has transformed its annual Fall Festival into a spring Mardi Gras Carnival this weekend. Live music performances, carnival rides, a beer garden, several food booths, a shoe-box float parade, a raffle with an Apple iPad as first prize, games for kids and teens (with prizes), and contests (prizes and awards)! This community event is fun for the entire family. The Mardi Gras will be held on the church grounds at 1879 N. Lake Ave., Altadena. Carnival hours are: Fri., Feb. 25, 6-10 PM; Sat., Feb. 26, 2-10 PM; Sun., Feb. 27, 1-8 PM

- Gallery at the End of the World will be selling to the rafters this weekend, 9 AM-3 PM. Absolutely your last chance: props, doors, the front counter, multiple magnifying glasses ... it's all for sale. Get a memento from Altadena's former signature gallery, today and Sunday. 2475 N. Lake Ave.

- Learn how to transform a water-guzzling lawn into a garden paradise: "Swan Song for the Lawn" with Larry Santoyo is a workshop that will be held in Altadena Sat. and Sun., from 11-4 PM each day. This hands-on workshop you will learn the basics of food forestry, garden design, sustainable landscape construction and more. - Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church will be holding its annual Chili Cook-Off from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Community Hall at 185 West Altadena Drive, corner of Glenrose. The event is sponsored by the Youth of CTS in collaboration with CTS' World Famous "Chili Mentors." Tickets are $10.00 for ages 12 and up; $5.00 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit CTS Community Youth Programs. ALL are welcome!

- RIPE Altadena: Join RIPE Altadena and native plant expert Orchid Black as she presents valuable information on how to prepare acorns for food in a Feb. 27 workshop. Learn how to identify the best oak species for food and storage, learn how to leach and grind flour, and in the end eat acorn cornbread.
