Altadena resident Amanda Klotzsche, who is also Assistant Planner for the City of Burbank, has forwarded to us this map of projected bikeways in Altadena as part of Los Angeles County's bicycle master plan.
She tells us:
I think it’s interesting that the county would like to plan to have a bicycle boulevard (basically a route on which they will put a ton of traffic calming measures to make it safer for bicyclists) run through Altadena. [Ed: that's the dotted line on Harriet, Calavaras, Mendocino, and Midwick] I’m totally in support of it, although I think it would have a greater more positive community impact if it was to run along Altadena Drive, as that road is already heavily used by bicyclists and could use traffic calming measures to slow down automobiles.
As well as the bicycle boulevard, Altadena is marked for bikeways in Class II (a marked path between parking and autos) and Class III (lanes shared with autos, but indicated by signposts and sharrows, or stenciled designs, on the street).
There will be a community meeting on this issue on Tues., April 5 at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St. , from 6:30-8 PM. For more on the plan, go here:
