Customers of Rubio Canyon Land & Water Co. are being asked to conserve during the March 18-27 water service reduction, even though the water company believes it has adequate resources to weather the ten days.
The water company sent out a message to customers this month that "We plan to use our wells during this period, however we will not have access to any supplemental water. Please help us ensure reservoirs and local supplies won't be drawn down by extreme usage. No outdoor watering, hand-washing vehicles, filling swimming pools or spas, or hosing down driveways."
According to Lillian Woods, director of operations for the water company, they are encouraging conservation because, in case of emergency, there will be no backup supplies available from Foothill Municipal Water, one of their source companies. Foothill in turn gets its water from the the Metropolitan Water District, which will be doing seismic and other upgrades to its LaVerne facility during those days.
Alll other water companies in Altadena, Pasadena, and La Crescenta -- which ultimately get water from MWD -- are operating under restrictions for the period.
