In the 1960's, Los Angeles County realigned Marengo Avenue, it left a roughly triangular patch of dirt on Marengo and Woodbury Road.
But now, thanks to the efforts of residents, Altadena Heritage, and the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy, the dirt patch has become a pocket park of drought-tolerant California native plants and trees: Old Marengo Park.
On Sun., May 1, Altadena Heritage will dedicate the park as an Altadena Heritage Area (AHA!) starting at 3 PM, thanking the organizations that helped turn a vacant dirt lot into a demonstration garden.
