First quarter statistics released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Dept. show that Altadena Station has recorded the largest decrease in Part I crimes of any station, compared to this time last year.
In 2011, Altadena reported 175 Part I crimes, as compared to 306 at the end of the first quarter of 2010, a reduction of 42.8%.
Part I crimes include violent crimes (aggravated assault, rape, murder, and robbery) as well as serious property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft).
Altadena's crime reduction rate put it significantly ahead of other stations, including Temple City Station (-29.7%) and Avalon (-28.6%).
Altadena station public information officder Det. Lt. Joseph Dempsey wrote in an email:
Altadena had the largest decrease in Part 1 Crimes than any other sheriff’s station in the county. We should all be very proud of these numbers. We strongly believe that crime prevention is a true partnership. No one group can bring down crime without the other. One of the main goals of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. is to reduce crime. This includes property crime, specifically burglary from motor vehicles and residences. Remember to "Lock it, Hide it, Keep it".
Don't leave gifts or valuables visible inside your vehicle, and always lock your vehicle and residence doors.
Also, report suspicious activity by calling (626)798-1131. Call 911 only in emergencies, or crime in progress.
