Enjoy fellowship among the weeds this Sunday from 10 AM until noon or so at Old Marengo Park, southwest corner of Woodbury and Marengo. Those interested please bring your own gloves, and other equipment is also very helpful: shovels to deliver mulch, narrow shovels or trowels to remove pesky thistles, wheelbarrows, plastic bags to fill with green debris, etc.
Old Marengo Park is a community project of Arroyo and Foothills Conservancy, Altadena Watershed Committee, Altadena Heritage, Mountain View Cemetery and others, and funded by Metropolitan Water District, Supervisor Antonovich, Pasadena Department of Water and Power, Foothills Municipal Water District and others. It is maintained solely by volunteers in the neighborhood and greater community.
What was an 8,000 square foot patch of dirt for 50 years (emptied when the county realigned Marengo in the 1960s) is now a blooming demonstration garden of California natives that enhances the neighborhood and creates interest for thousands who drive along Woodbury Road every day.
