With photo and video courtesy Donna Barnes Roberts and Duane Thorin, three 60's musical icons visited Tim "Zeke the Sheik" Dundon in his Altadena jungle yesterday in an early celebration of Earth Day.
Says Duane: "Every year when Spring hits, Altadenans flock to Mr. Dundon's yard or call him up for the best compost in town. Here are some celebrity musicians who frequently play the Coffee Gallery in Altadena, paying their respects to one of Altadena's most famous citizens, the Compost King of Southern California. The occasion is Earth Day, with the amazing Mr. Dundon ready and willing to drop a full truck load of great compost for your organic garden for the mere cost of gas to get it there. Leigh Adams of the Los Angeles County Arboretum in Arcadia recently described Tim Dundon as the single most important figure in organic gardening in the entire area."

Tim Dundon, who provides a jungle home for many birds, including "Elvis," the turkey in the photo.
Barry McGuire was in the New Christy Minstrels, then came out with "Eve of Destruction" as a solo. He also was the lead in the Broadway production of "Hair" (a role he probably wouldn't get today!).
Terry Kirkman was a founding member of the Association, and wrote the hit "Cherish".
John York was a member of the band that started folk rock, the Byrds.
All of these cats frequently play or frequent The Coffee Gallery in Altadena, 2029 N. Lake Ave. (Barry and John played a sold out show Thursday night, and York will be appearing there as "Byrds and Beyond" on June 30)

We confess that we have no idea what Dundon's talking about.
