What better way to pay tribute to a coffeehouse owner than to roast them like an Arabica bean?
And that's exactly what's going to happen to Julie Sandoval, owner/muse/mother hen of the Coffee Gallery, 2029 N. Lake Ave., who will be roasted on her own petard Sat., April 16, 8-11 PM in a fun-draiser.
In March, the Coffee Gallery skirted with being closed down by county officials for not having an entertainment license because Sandoval had opened the shop to poetry readings, standup comedy, and folksinging. (The concert venue in the back, the Coffee Gallery Backstage, is a separate business with separate ownership and was already appropriately licensed).
Fortunately, Sandoval has worked out an agreement with the county, and the benefit roast will go to help pay the about $2,000 fee for the entertainment license so the frontstage performing can continue.
