Gardener Mark Salzman expressed delight at receiving a Golden Poppy Award as Altadena Heritage chairman Mark Goldschmidt looks on.
More than 70 people gathered in the flower-filled back garden of artist Nancy Romero to celebrate gardens and gardeners at Altadena Heritage's 8th annual Golden Poppy awards this Sunday.
Altadenans whose streetside landscaping had caught the attention of this year's committee were honored: Mark Saltzman and Walter Huber of 2860 Windfall Avenue, Doug LaLonde of 2564 Altadena Drive, Jelayne and Daniel Haight of 2420 Catherine Rd, Margaret Edmondson and Dmitre Bovaird of 1542/1550 Morada, and David Mispagel of 734 W. Harriet. Altadena Heritage Chair Mark Goldschmidt also expressed the organization's appreciation for all Altadena gardens that "give to the street," thus adding beauty and grace to the community.
Live jazz and lovely food rounded out the afternoon.
