- CERT volunteers are asked to come to the Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr., from 6:30-8 PM for an organizing meeting: see how many CERT-trained volunteers there are, where they are, what kind of skills and experience each has, etc. Help us be better prepared if a catastrophe occurs.
- Assemblyman Anthony Portantino hosts a public safety forum, "Bears in your Backyard," at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's station, 4554 N. Briggs Ave., La Crescenta, from 7:30-9 PM. - "Yogi Bear" is presumably NOT in your backyard, but IS this month's Friday Fun Flick at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St. , starting at 3:30 PM. Rated PG, it's absolutely free and family-friendly.
- "Paint-In" at Camp Mariposa, 615 E. Mariposa St., to support the Altadena Relay for Life. Make a donation and paint a luminaria bag with your message on it honoring or memorializing someone you love. You can also paint additional bags for others to use at the Relay or the Coffee Gallery Luminaria Donation Round-up below. The Paint-In will go from 2:30-6 PM.
- The St. Elizabeth Parish School junior high performs "Annie Get Your Gun" Fri. and Sat. at 7 PM. Admission is $5 for students, $8 for adults. Performance is at St. Elizabeth Parish Hall, 1840 N. Lake Ave. For more information: 626-797-7727.

- Kathi Ellsworth of the Pasadena Audubon Society and AFC docent Lyle Hatridge lead this week's docent-led hike of Rubio Canyon from the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy. Meet at the intersection of E. Loma Alta Dr. and Camp Huntington Road, just east of the bridge, 8 AM. Trial is about a mile each way with a 500 ft. elevation gain -- and bring binoculars, birders!
- The Spring Art on Palm sale and exhibit, benefiting West LA Fisher House, runs from 9:30 AM-5:30 PM in Wild Wood Park, 1419 E. Palm. The one-day-only show and sale features ceramics, collage, drawings, encaustic, fabric, fiber, glass, jewelry, paintings, photography, watercolors and woodcarving and turning, all in a hidden setting of ancient oaks. Admission and parking are free, and light refreshments available.
- Household hazardous waste and e-waste collection will take place at the L.A. - Faithful reader Jane Szabo says: "My husband Todd's band (one of several he is in) Spyder Blue is playing this Saturday at 10 PM @ the Rancho Bar, 2485 N Lake Ave. I haven't even seen this band yet...but Todd tells me it is an interesting mix of country and ballads....band includes an upright bass player and a trumpet. Todd does a lot of singing. Should be interesting!"

- The Peace Officers Memorial Torch Run will end at Altadena Sheriff's Station, 780 E. Altadena Dr., sometime around 2-3 PM. The run will be followed by a ceremony honoring fallen peace officers. This year's run will remember Charlene Rottler, one of Altadena's first female patrol officers, who died of injuries sustained while on duty, and CHP Officer Philip Ortiz.
