The Pasadena Police Department opened up their Altadena-based heliport to the public Saturday, to not only show off their chopper fleet, but put in some good PR for the department, including its SWAT and K9 units. More pictures after the jump.
Lots of kids ended up climbing into the SWAT strike vehicle.
We want one of these signs (which was outside the mobile command center). Not sure what we'd do with it, but we want one.
We also want this mobile gas grill.
There were also demonstrations of police tactics. Here, the chopper brings a K-9 to a truck containing dangerous characters.
Once out of the chopper, the dog is ready to do his job.
And once they coax the criminal (played by a well-padded officer) out of the truck, the dog comes in to finish the job of taking him down.
And chances are you'll find someone you knew there ... in our case, it was both CAPP volunteer David Killgore and Pasadena's Public Information Officer Ann Erdman.
