- Latest wrinkles in the Kelvin McFarland aka "Sgt. Mac" case: at yesterday's preliminary hearing: supporters were out with signs, while in the courtroom, his accuser failed to identify him in court. - Anita Martin of Altadena attended a fundraising reception in Pasadena Monday to meet with First Lady Michelle Obama. Martin is an active volunteer with the VA, several military service organizations, the Altadena Sheriff's Station, Christmas Tree Lane Assn., Franklin Elementary and Eliot Middle Schools, and has also been active in neighborhood watch. Anita and her husband, Walter, own Martins' Famous Louisana Sausages, and she was named a "Woman of the Year" by Congressman Adam Schiff. More on Anita Martin's Woman of the Year honor here.
- If you just can't wait for a concert in the park, the city of Sierra Madre hosts the Pasadena Community Orchestra this Sat., June 18, is a festival of popular music from the classics and theater, starting at 6:30 PM. Admission is free, and it's at Memorial Park is at 222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre. Come early and bring a picnic.
- San Gabriel Valley Tribune has an editorial about the planned preliminary congressional redistricting scheme, which severs Altadena from Pasadena but puts us in the same congressional district as Burbank, Glendale, and Ranch Cucamonga. Altadena as the red-headed stepchild of the foothills communities still seems to be a truism.
