The Pasadena Dept. of Water and Power (PWP) is warning that in recent weeks some customers have received phone calls from people posing as PWP employees who threaten to cut off services unless they receive credit card information to make a payment for their utility bills.
PWP says that they do not make phone calls to demand utlity bill payment and do not send staff to homes or businesses to collect money. Anyone receiving such a phone call or in-person visit should refuse to provide credit card information and terminate the call. Customers may also contact PWP’s Customer Service Center at (626) 744-4005 and/or the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241 to report the suspicious or fraudulent activity.
These phone calls may be attempts to retrieve sensitive personal information for purposes of identity theft and using the credit card information to make unauthorized charges. PWP customers are reminded to use the secured web site to make payments online at www.pwpweb.com.
Customers may also pay their bills by regular mail or by calling the Customer Service center at (626) 744-4005.
