Young & Healthy, the nonprofit that helps provide health care to the uninsured and underinsured children in Pasadena area schools, will honor departing Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Edwin Diaz with the J. Donald Thomas Award on Sun., June 26 at the Armory Center for the Arts.
Since March 2007, Superintendent Diaz has led organizational improvements, innovative reforms and strategic partnership to enhance student achievement in Pasadena Unified School District. During his tenure, student achievement has improved, as demonstrated by 53-point increase inthe District’s Academic performance Index (API).
Mr. Diaz has more than 30 years of experience in California public schools. He has won numerous awards for his work in public education,including the California State University of Los Angeles Distinguished Educator Award.
Young & Healthy’s J. Donald Thomas Award is given to those whose dedication, perseverance, and selfless devotion to the well-being of children exemplifies the spirit that led to the founding of this extraordinary health care program.
