It was a swingin' good time at Farnsworth Park Saturday night with the Down Beat Express at the Sheriff Support Group's summer concert series. With vocalist Jennifer Gates showing how it's done, it was a great evening for family and friends.
Jennifer Gates works the Great American Songbook ...
A few folks cut a rug near the stage ...
...while Debbi Swanson Patrick and sheriff volunteer Randii Wessen try out a few moves themselves.
It was a good time for the Down Beat Express to toot their own (flugel)horn. Guitarist Brian Hughes is up next week.
By the way, several folks asked why the center stage staircase was removed. According to Sheriff Support Group president Robert Klomburg, it wasn't original to the stage, anyway -- it was built for one of the "American Pie" movies (Farnsworth Park is band camp, didn't you know?) Over time, the county required that handrails be installed on the staircase to meet ADA requirements --- and the handrails made it hard to see the performing acts. So the whole thing was taken down before the concert season.
