Los Angeles County has scheduled two public meetings this month to answer questions and provide information about Altadena's new trash collection plan.
According to a letter mailed out to residents this week by the county Dept. of Public Works, the meetings will be Wed., July 20, from 7-8:30 PM, and Sat., July 23, from 10-11:30 AM. Both meetings will be held at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr.
The county awarded Athens Services a seven year trash franchise for Altadena, which is scheduled to start Sept. 1. Athens' basic rate will be $18.06 per month, and senior discount is $13.55. Residents will receive three 96 gallon rolling containers -- one each for trash, green waste, and recyclables -- with the option to have an extra green or recyclable container at no additional charge.
Athens is also offering other services as well, including Christmas tree collection, bulky item collection, free roll-out services for the elderly and disabled, and e-waste collection. Residents who keep horses can also receive a 64-gallon cart at no additional cost for manure.
