Joseph Shuldiner, the foodie/ book designer /Renaissance man who was one of the candidates to run a farmer's market at Loma Alta Park, tells us that "the market is a go-ahead! In fact I hope to launch the market this October. The Parks and Rec Dept and I are in contract negotiations right now, so as soon as that is signed I'll have much more to talk about."
The market will take place every Wednesday, from 3-7 PM at Loma Alta Park.
Shuldiner says he also has three vendors committed to the market already, before he's even put out a formal request: Kentor Canyon Farms (Ventura), produce; The Garden of…..produce/flowers (Los Olivos); and Mother Moo Creamery, natural/artisanal ice cream (Sierra Madre). "I am planning to start with 30 vendors with roughly a 60/40 ratio of farm products to prepared & packaged food vendors," Shuldiner said in a email to us.
In addition, Shuldiner says, "I also have been honored by being inducted into the newly-formed Southern California Certified Farmers' Market Grange chapter. I am among amazing company having the likes of well-known market managers such as Greta Dunlap (South Pasadena FM), Laura Avery (Santa Monica FM), Diana Rodgers (Mar Vista FM) and Gretchen Sterling (Pasadena FM) as fellow members. The Grange is a grassroots organization that began in 1867, in the aftermath of the destructive and divisive Civil War. The Grange supports and advocates for healthy communities, family farms, local economies, cultural diversity, public schools and education, the arts, and a variety of charitable causes: California State Grange(warning: music!).
